NDC has failed the electorate — NPP

NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong has taken aim at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of failing to fulfil major campaign promises and abusing state power.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the launch of the NPP’s amended constitution, Mr. Kodua said Ghanaians entrusted the NDC with an “overwhelming mandate” in the 2024 elections, expecting firm action on illegal mining, improved governance, and enhanced national security.

“Nearly a year on, these expectations remain unmet,” he stated, adding that the fight against illegal mining—galamsey—has deteriorated and now threatens the nation’s environmental survival.

He further accused the government of weaponising state institutions to intimidate political opponents and suppress critical journalists.

“We have seen rising levels of abuse of incumbency and state-sponsored intimidation of political opponents and media actors,” he said.

Mr. Kodua also criticised what he described as politically motivated withdrawals of court cases involving officials accused of misusing public funds, as well as attempts to interfere with independent state bodies, including efforts to overturn NPP-held parliamentary seats.

He additionally condemned the executive’s relationship with the judiciary, referencing the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

“Unfortunately, the judiciary—our last line of defence for the rule of law—has been captured by the executive. Judges now fear delivering impartial justice due to possible reprisals,” he claimed.
