Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for change rebrands as United Party
The Movement for Change, founded by former Trade Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has officially rebranded as the United Party (UP Plus) — a move the leadership says marks a new era of political renewal and pays homage to one of Ghana’s most historic political traditions.
Speaking at the official unveiling ceremony, Party Chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface explained that the new identity embodies the group’s commitment to good governance, competence, and transformational leadership.
“Today, we present to you the United Party, or UP Plus. The UP Plus is a political organisation that stands for real change in governance,” he said. “We will make a difference because we value credibility, competence, and vision in leadership.”
Party founder and leader Alan Kyerematen described the rebrand as a “new dawn” for Ghana’s political landscape — one aimed at promoting accountability, fighting corruption, and building a more inclusive democracy.
“This new dawn will drive economic transformation, create massive job opportunities, and usher in a golden age for business,” he declared. “It will unite Ghanaians of all backgrounds toward a shared vision of national development, transparency, and environmental sustainability.”
Mr. Kyerematen added that UP Plus seeks to move Ghana beyond the winner-takes-all politics that has long defined its governance structure, promising a more collaborative and merit-based approach to leadership.
The Electoral Commission officially issued the party’s registration certificate on October 3, 2025, formally recognizing its new name and identity.
