NPP raises concern over Abronye DC’s health after absence from court
The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, has expressed concern about the condition and welfare of the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, after he was not produced in court during proceedings on his bail application.
Speaking to journalists after a hearing at the High Court in Accra on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Mr. Koduah said the party was worried because Abronye DC was absent from the courtroom, raising questions about his current health status.
“Unfortunately, they didn’t bring Chairman Abronye to the court and we are very worried as to his current health status because we did not see him. It is something we want to be put on record that we came to the court and we did not see our Chairman at the court today. Let us see how tomorrow goes,” he stated.
Abronye DC is currently in custody over charges including offensive conduct conducive to breach of the peace and publication of false news.
The High Court adjourned the hearing of his bail application after the prosecution requested more time to file a response to the application.
Lawyers for Abronye, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, opposed the request, arguing that the prosecution had already been served with the relevant court documents and should have been prepared to respond.
However, the prosecution maintained that it needed additional time to study the application before responding formally.
The court subsequently directed the Republic to file its response by close of day and adjourned the matter to Thursday, May 21, 2026, for the bail hearing.
Abronye DC was reportedly arrested earlier this week following comments and publications alleged to have breached public order laws and spread false information. His arrest has since generated political debate, with some members of the opposition NPP accusing the government of targeting political opponents.
