Adwoa Safo shooting case: Court grants Kwadwo Safo, 8 others GH¢500k bail each

Nine individuals standing trial in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been granted bail by the court.

The accused persons were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. While the sureties are not required to justify their assets, they must complete and sign a bail justification form in accordance with the court’s conditions.

All nine accused have pleaded not guilty to five charges, namely the use of an offensive weapon, possession of an offensive weapon, prohibition of vigilante groups, discharging firearms in public, and causing unlawful damage.

The case stems from a shooting incident that occurred during a gathering linked to the Kristo Asafo Mission, which has been at the centre of a leadership dispute following the death of its founder, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

Among those charged are Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, brother of the injured former MP, as well as Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, and Benjamin Amoakwa Sam.

The other accused persons are Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom. Some of them are reported to serve as personal bodyguards to Nana Kwadwo Kantanka Akofena.

According to the prosecution, the alleged shooting, which left Ms. Adwoa Safo injured, occurred during activities connected to a disputed installation process within the Kristo Asafo Mission.

The matter is expected to return to court as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
