Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s son, Akofena I, officially takes over Kristo Asafo
The Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has officially ushered in a new era following the installation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I as the new spiritual and administrative leader of the movement founded by the late Apostle Dr. Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The announcement was formally made on Sunday, June 21, 2026, through the mission’s official Facebook platform, where members described the development as a historic milestone for the church and the broader Kantanka family legacy. The mission also offered prayers for wisdom, strength, and divine direction for the newly installed leader as he assumes responsibility for one of Ghana’s most influential religious and industrial movements.
Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I is one of the sons of the late Apostle Dr. Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the renowned Ghanaian inventor, industrialist, preacher, and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission. The late apostle’s death created uncertainty surrounding succession within the mission, with many followers closely monitoring who would eventually inherit leadership of the movement.
The installation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, however, comes at a tense moment for both the family and the church, following reports of legal disputes, internal disagreements, and controversy surrounding the succession process. Recent reports alleged that there had been attempts to halt the installation through a court injunction, while separate claims about an alleged shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo — a lawyer, politician, and daughter of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka — further intensified public attention on the family.
Although details surrounding the reported injunction and alleged shooting incident remain unclear, the latest installation appears to signal that the mission is determined to move forward with its leadership transition despite the controversies surrounding the family.
The development has already generated massive reactions online, with supporters of the mission congratulating Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, while others continue to raise questions about the unresolved tensions within the influential family.
