“Some doctors are killing patients” – Akosua Agyapong threatens hospital exposé

Ghanaian female highlife singer and television personality Akosua Agyapong, has stirred public debate after making strong allegations against some health workers in the country, accusing them of contributing to avoidable deaths in hospitals.

Speaking during an appearance on the ‘Experience in Life’ show hosted by Nayas, the veteran musician expressed deep concern about what she described as neglectful attitudes among some doctors and nurses, particularly in emergency situations where patients are reportedly turned away.

She claimed that in some cases, hospitals allegedly refuse to attend to critically ill patients on arrival, citing a lack of available beds instead of offering immediate first aid or stabilization.

“Doctors and nurses in this country are killing citizens, yet they still have their licenses and continue working. A patient can arrive at your facility and instead of giving first aid or trying to stabilize them, you tell them there is no bed and send them to another hospital. If it were your own parent, would you have done the same?”

Akosua Agyapong further argued that some of these incidents only receive attention after irreversible damage has been done, adding that apologies often come too late.

She also shared a tragic account involving a woman who appeared on her program, claiming she lost her 24-year-old daughter due to what she described as medical negligence.

According to her narration, the case involved a situation where a medical prescription was reportedly misinterpreted due to illegible handwriting, leading to the administration of the wrong medication and the death of the young woman.

The singer further warned that she intends to investigate and expose conditions in selected health facilities, although she declined to name them publicly at this stage.

Her remarks have since generated widespread reactions, with some agreeing with her concerns about emergency care systems in Ghana, while others argue that her comments unfairly generalize and undermine the efforts of hardworking health professionals.
