The Accra Regional Police Command has rescued sixteen victims of human trafficking in Ngleshie Amanfro, a suburb of Accra, following a successful operation based on a tip-off.
According to a report by Citi Newsroom on July 31, 2025, the rescue followed a complaint lodged on July 24 concerning the disappearance of a 17-year-old Ivorian national, Chaka Kante. Kante had reportedly been missing for nine months after being deported to Ghana under the false pretense of joining a football team.
In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, police disclosed that the operation led officers, accompanied by the complainant, to a residential facility in Toptown, Amanfro, where the victims were found.
The rescued individuals include 12 males and four females, believed to be nationals of Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were lured by suspected agents of a company identified as Q-Net, who promised them lucrative jobs in Europe.
The victims have been identified as:
-
Ivorian nationals: Denbele Mohammed (20), Sawadu Razak (20), Olivier Yasei (19), Wilfred Kwako (18), Philbe Kwame (25), Kante Shamar (19), Kwame Lambel (24), Kone Musah (24), Lasnel Kante (18), and Chaka Kante (17).
-
Burkinabe nationals: Sajor Dijala (19), Abass Jeril (19), Wadrago Alice (22), Nyamego Winkode (22), Santa Elodi (23), and Oamba Fatooma (22).
The police confirmed that the victims are currently in protective custody and will be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further profiling and repatriation in line with immigration protocols.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the trafficking scheme. Authorities have urged the public—particularly parents and guardians—to remain alert and cautious of fraudulent recruitment and travel offers.
“The police also encourage anyone with credible information on the recruiters to report to the nearest police station,” the statement concluded.
