Renowned Ghanaian music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has strongly criticised Kumawood actor LilWin for his recent remarks concerning the vigil held in honour of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
LilWin had earlier expressed disappointment with the Creative Arts Agency (CAA) for organising Daddy Lumba’s vigil on the same day—July 29, 2025—that he was scheduled to premiere his new movie.
Reacting to LilWin’s comments in an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, Fredyma described them as highly insensitive, especially at a time when Ghanaians and fans across the globe are grieving the loss of one of the country’s most celebrated musicians.
“He should have been strategic,” Fredyma stated. “Instead of complaining, he could’ve embraced the vigil and turned it into an opportunity. For instance, he could’ve encouraged moviegoers to attend the premiere with candles as a tribute to Daddy Lumba while still supporting the creative industry.”
Fredyma further chastised the actor, suggesting that LilWin had missed a chance to show respect and promote unity.
“If you can’t attend the vigil, you can light a candle wherever you are and mourn with the family. But to suggest people abandon the vigil for his movie? That was in poor taste. Who even cares about his movie in a time like this?” he added.
Fredyma’s comments have stirred fresh debate about sensitivity, timing, and strategy within the creative arts space, especially when personal projects intersect with national moments of mourning.
