Police personnel stationed at the Nkwanta–Breweniase barrier on the Eastern Corridor in the Oti Region have intercepted a major consignment of ammunition and arrested two occupants of a cargo truck in connection with the suspected illegal transport of the items.
According to preliminary information, officers conducting routine checks stopped a MAN Togo cargo truck with registration number GW 9927–13, travelling from Accra-Tema Station towards Damanko in the Nkwanta North District.

A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition, as well as a foreign-made firearm.
The items retrieved include 7,000 AA ammunition, 3,000 BB cartridges, and 1,124 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, among others, bringing the total haul to over 20,000 rounds.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Kende Richard, aged 26, while his mate is Latif Adam, aged 20.
Both individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

The Nkwanta South Police Command are supporting the ongoing inquiry to establish the source, intended destination, and possible network behind the consignment.
The interception comes amid heightened security measures in the Nkwanta Municipality, where authorities have intensified surveillance due to concerns about insecurity and recurring conflicts in parts of the district.
Security officials say the increased vigilance is aimed at preventing the movement of weapons and ammunition that could fuel tensions or criminal activity.
Members of the public have called for the officers at the checkpoint to be commended for their professionalism, alertness, and intelligence-led operations, which resulted in the retrieval and arrests. Investigations are ongoing, and police are expected to provide further updates as the case develops.
