Residents of Sefwi Asawinso in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region have been left in shock and grief after the body of an 8-year-old girl, who went missing for less than 24 hours, was discovered in a cocoa farm.
The deceased, identified as Josephine Ayitey, was found dead at a cocoa farm near Nkwakaw, a suburb of Sefwi Asawinso, a day after she was reported missing from her home.
According to the Assemblyman for the Asawinso-Sefwi Line Electoral Area, Adu Stephen, the girl went missing on Sunday afternoon while playing with a friend.
He said family members and residents mounted a search immediately after her disappearance, but their efforts proved unsuccessful until her body was later discovered the following day.
The incident has thrown the community into fear and mourning, with many residents—particularly parents—expressing concern over the safety of children in the area.
Authorities are expected to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death as the community continues to mourn the tragic loss.
