“I want justice for my son” — Mother of 15-year-old Javits cries out as she departs for the US
The mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong has made an emotional appeal for justice following the tragic killing of her son in the Bronx, New York.
In a heartbreaking video shared on X, Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi spoke about the future she had hoped for her son, revealing that she had always wanted him to grow up and become a doctor.
“I want justice for my son. That’s all. I wanted my son to become a doctor,” she said.
Her emotional plea comes as she prepares to travel from Ghana to the United States to attend her son’s funeral and bid him a final farewell.
Javits was shot in the abdomen on the morning of October 29, 2026, while walking to DreamYard Preparatory School in the Bronx. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The teenager had moved from Ghana to New York about a year earlier to join his father, Thomas Frimpong.
The killing has sparked widespread grief and calls for answers, with the New York Police Department continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Three possible motives are being examined, including robbery, mistaken identity and school-related bullying, but no arrests have been announced.
The Ghanaian government has pledged to cover Madam Gyamfi’s travel expenses, while efforts have been made to facilitate her journey to the US. A fundraising campaign for the family has also attracted substantial public support.
For the grieving mother, however, the loss goes beyond the death of a child; it is the collapse of a future she had dreamed of. Her plea remains simple: she wants justice for her son, whose life was cut short before he could fulfil his ambitions.
