Three arrested over midnight motor racing, robberies in Kumasi
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an outlaw motorcycle gang accused of terrorising residents within the Breman-Kronum-Suame enclave in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as Sharif Mahmud, 23, Abdallah Karim, 25, and James Alena, 25, were arrested during a police operation at Suame in Kumasi at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
According to the police, the gang is allegedly involved in illegal midnight motorcycle racing, during which members take over public roads and attack and rob unsuspecting passersby.
The Command said it had been monitoring the movements and activities of the suspects as part of sustained efforts to apprehend them after they repeatedly evaded arrest.
Although three members have been arrested, several others reportedly escaped during the operation, prompting the police to intensify efforts to track them down.
The suspects have since been granted police inquiry bail and are expected to be arraigned before a court when it resumes sitting following the ongoing strike by the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG).
Meanwhile, investigations are continuing as the police pursue the remaining members of the suspected gang.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has urged residents to volunteer credible information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects.
