Hamile Explosion: Interior Minister, GIS visit injured Officer at Hospital

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has visited an injured officer of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra following the deadly explosion at Hamile in the Upper West Region.

The minister was accompanied by members of the GIS management team to check on the condition of Inspector Rashad Yussif, who sustained serious injuries in the explosion.

Inspector Yussif was airlifted from the Nandom Hospital to Accra for specialised medical care after receiving initial treatment at the facility.

The government deployed a Ghana Air Force medical team to facilitate his transfer to the 37 Military Hospital.

Mr Muntaka had earlier disclosed the airlift arrangement while addressing Parliament on Tuesday, November 3, assuring lawmakers that the government was taking the necessary steps to ensure the injured officer received appropriate medical attention.

The explosion occurred on Tuesday, November 3, along an unauthorised route at Hamile during a border patrol operation.

A tricycle reportedly transporting suspected explosives went off during the operation, killing an immigration officer and two civilians, while Inspector Yussif sustained injuries.

The minister’s visit forms part of efforts to monitor the condition of the injured officer and demonstrate the government’s support for personnel affected by the incident.
