Actor LilWin, Regional Minister, Kokofu among passengers on Kumasi-Accra flight hit by turbulence
A flight travelling from Kumasi to Accra reportedly encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday, November 3, leaving passengers, including two former and serving Members of Parliament, shaken by the experience.
Among those on board were Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, former Bantama MP, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu and actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win.
Dr Kokofu has described the incident as a frightening experience, saying passengers feared for their lives during what he estimated to be three to five minutes of intense turbulence.
Recounting the incident on Lawson FM, he said passengers heard a loud bang shortly after take-off, after which the aircraft appeared to rise sharply before dropping abruptly, creating the sensation of a free fall.
Although turbulence is a known occurrence during flights, the former MP said the severity of what they experienced was deeply disturbing.
“At a point, all of us on the flight had given up. We all started praying. It was a complete trauma. I was wondering if it could have been my last day on earth. Within a space of 3-5 minutes, we were in hell,” he said.
He disclosed that the aircraft was almost full, with only two seats, 1A and 1B, unoccupied.
Dr Kokofu said the experience had prompted him to ask his office to formally write to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), requesting a full investigation into what happened.
He said he wanted authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, adding that he was also concerned about reports of a similar occurrence on the preceding day.
Despite the frightening experience, he commended the pilot and crew for their handling of the situation and for bringing the passengers safely to Accra.
He said the pilot demonstrated courage in navigating the aircraft through the difficult conditions.
