Bawumia tasks new Greater Accra NPP Leadership to embrace all members
NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has urged the newly elected Greater Accra Regional executives of the party to set aside divisions from the recent internal elections and work collectively towards the 2028 general elections.
Dr Bawumia made the call on Sunday, August 16, when the new regional executives, led by Regional Chairman Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, paid a courtesy visit to him following the regional executive elections held a day earlier.
The former Vice President stressed the need for the new leadership to prioritise unity and reconciliation as the party moves into preparations for the next general election.
“Let us come together. Because the real election is 2028,” Dr Bawumia said.
He encouraged the executives to bring together all members of the party and make effective use of their skills, experience and expertise, regardless of the roles they played during the internal elections.
Dr Bawumia cautioned against sidelining members who contested unsuccessfully or keeping their supporters away from party activities.
“It’s not to keep them at home or keep them in the capital. It doesn’t help the party. So we need everybody’s talents,” he added.
He therefore called on the new regional leadership to adopt an inclusive approach by engaging former contenders and their supporters and giving them opportunities to contribute to the party’s activities.
The meeting formed part of the NPP’s efforts to transition from its internal elections to preparations for the 2028 general elections.
The Greater Accra Region is considered strategically important to the NPP’s electoral ambitions, particularly after the party suffered significant losses in the region during the 2024 general elections.
Dr Bawumia’s call for unity and inclusiveness is expected to guide the new regional leadership’s efforts to reconcile competing factions, strengthen grassroots structures and position the party for the 2028 polls.
