Awutu Nananom Perform Traditional Rites Over Alleged ‘Land Guards’ Comments by Kasoa MCE
The Odupong Nananom in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region have performed traditional rites and poured libations against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Seth Banini, following comments he allegedly made describing the traditional authorities as land guards.
The incident follows tensions between the MCE and the Odupong Nananom, who reportedly boycotted a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 24-hour market over what they described as disrespectful treatment by the MCE.
According to the traditional authorities, the MCE subsequently referred to the Odupong Nananom as land guards, a description they consider offensive and disrespectful to the traditional institution.
In response, the Nananom gathered to perform traditional rites and pour libations, invoking their ancestors and the authority of the stool to address the matter.
They called for the MCE to be summoned before the traditional authorities to explain the alleged comments and account for his conduct.
The Odupong Nananom have also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene in the matter and take appropriate action against the MCE.
They accused Mr Banini of undermining the dignity of traditional authorities and warned that failure to resolve the matter could lead to further traditional action.
The Nananom said they remained committed to protecting the integrity and dignity of the traditional institution and urged authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserved.
