Bisa Kdei warns upcoming artistes against relying solely on talent and fame for survival
Ghanaian highlife musician Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah, popularly known as Bisa Kdei, has urged emerging musicians to treat their careers as businesses, warning that talent and popularity alone cannot guarantee financial security in the entertainment industry.
Speaking in an interview on November 3, 2026, the Mansa hitmaker said upcoming artistes must build dependable professional relationships and surround themselves with people who can offer honest advice rather than simply agree with everything they do.
According to him, a small team of trustworthy and business-oriented individuals is more valuable than a large group that cannot identify and correct mistakes.
“Talent is not enough. You need to be smart and surround yourself with the right people. You need business-minded individuals who can correct you when you go wrong. You don’t need a large team; one or two solid people who believe in you and are honest with you are better than a crowd of people who cannot tell you the truth,” he said.
Bisa Kdei also encouraged musicians to establish alternative income streams and manage their earnings carefully, stressing that public recognition and financial success in music may not last forever.
“Beyond the fame, what will you eat when the fame is gone? You need to be business-minded. That is why I always say you should have a side hustle. When you spend money, you must plan,” he advised.
The musician further cautioned against extravagant spending driven by the desire to impress others, explaining that his difficult experiences before becoming successful had taught him to prioritise his personal goals over public approval.
“I have experienced hunger, and I know what I went through to get to where I am today. So why should I spend my time worrying about impressing someone? I don’t care about doing things just to please people,” he added.
Bisa Kdei’s advice highlights the importance of financial planning, responsible spending and sound management in an industry where fame can be unpredictable.
