A man identified as Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah has been arrested for impersonating a medical doctor and defrauding unsuspecting victims with false promises of international travel opportunities.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the suspect was apprehended on June 6, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation in Crispo City, Kasoa, in the Central Region.
At the time of his arrest, Fredrick was dressed in a white lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck and was preparing to meet another potential victim.
Police recovered several medical items from him, including two stethoscopes, three IV drips, five syringes, two sample bottles, a roll of plaster, six bottles of vaccines, and GH¢8,500 in cash.
During police interrogation, the suspect confessed to posing as a medical doctor affiliated with the United Brain Hospital in Mallam, a suburb of Accra.
He also admitted to using this false identity to initiate romantic relationships online, later defrauding his victims under the guise of assisting them with travel arrangements to Europe.
Fredrick is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities say he will be formally charged and arraigned in court in the coming days.
