The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has inaugurated a newly constituted Governing Board for the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), signaling a renewed push to strengthen the corporation’s leadership and strategic direction.
The new board, chaired by Prof. Joseph Oteng-Adjei, was officially sworn in on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. It is expected to provide oversight and guidance as GNPC advances its mandate within Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector.
In his remarks, Minister Jinapor noted that the board’s appointment aligns with the government’s broader energy strategy to enhance GNPC’s operational efficiency, attract investment, and ensure long-term energy security.
“This is part of our plan to reposition GNPC to deliver more value to the state and adapt to the changing dynamics of the global petroleum industry,” he stated.
Mr. Jinapor also disclosed that the government is in the process of reviewing the GNPC Act (PNDC Law 64) to reflect current industry realities and international best practices. He emphasized that this legislative reform is vital as Ghana grapples with declining oil production and seeks to maximize opportunities across the petroleum value chain.
“The review of the GNPC Act is timely and necessary. We must equip the Corporation with the tools and flexibility it needs to operate effectively in a competitive and evolving global energy landscape,” the minister added.
