End ‘ICT without Computers’ era, equip schools with labs – Dr. Patrick Essien urges Govt
Dr. Patrick Essien, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast’s Department of Physics and President of Molex Foundation Africa, has sounded a crucial alarm on Ghana’s educational landscape.
In an exclusive interview with Oyerepa News reporter Bernard K Dadzie, Dr. Essien stressed that the nation must bid farewell to the concept of ICT without computers, emphasizing that every school should be equipped with an ICT laboratory given the current technological era.
The Environmental Scientist firmly believes every school must have an ICT lab to foster effective learning in today’s technology-driven world.
Dr. Essien advocates for the establishment of ICT centers in every district, complemented by buses to transport students from their schools to these centers. Adding that tools for STEM education should be made genuinely available for students, moving beyond mere publicity.
He referenced former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adu-Twum’s initiative of building 6 STEM schools and urged the current government to enforce STEM education robustly.
He warned against producing graduates with certificates but lacking skills for employment, stressing a deliberate plan is needed to bolster STEM education.
Dr. Patrick Essien , Environmental Scientist, made a heartfelt appeal to Ghana’s Minister of Education to prioritize STEM education as a strategic move to mitigate graduate unemployment in the country.
According to him, enhancing STEM education would empower students with skills, enabling them to establish themselves and contribute meaningfully to the workforce.
