An unidentified landlord in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, has evicted his tenants without any prior notice, causing distress among the affected residents.
Drama unfolded in Kumasi when the landlord allegedly decided to evict his tenants without informing them beforehand. He is said to have secretly sold the house and used police officers to forcibly evict the tenants. The tenants were reportedly dragged out of their rooms by police officers while the new owner watched. Their belongings were mishandled and placed outside.
The tenants said no eviction notice was communicated to any of them. They had been paying their rent and going about their daily lives, unaware of what was about to happen. The incident has left some tenants pleading for time to find alternative accommodation, while others are still in shock over the development.
Netizens are calling for the arrest of the landlord, describing the act as unlawful. Others who have experienced similar situations have also shared their stories. However, some believe the tenants may have been informed but failed to take the warning seriously or chose to ignore it.
The Commissioner of Rent, Mr. Frederick Opoku, once stated that landlords are entitled to inspect their properties but must give tenants adequate notice.
“Landlords have the right to inspect rooms anytime they want, provided ample notice is given. It could be once every three months or every two months,” he said.
Social media users are now calling on him to address the reported unlawful eviction.
