Drivers credit GoldBod for stronger cedi, Cheaper fuel; slam minority criticism of CEO
The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has expressed concern over recent criticism of GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi by the Minority in Parliament.
According to the association, GoldBod’s initiatives have greatly benefited drivers by helping stabilize the cedi and contributing to the reduction in fuel prices, unlike their experience under the previous NPP government.
Speaking to the media, Paa Willie, President of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana, alleged that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s “Gold for Oil” policy failed to deliver any noticeable impact for drivers.
“Today, because of GoldBod, you can buy things at affordable prices in the market. Car prices have also dropped because the dollar is performing better now, and drivers are happy,” he said.
The association urged the Minority to focus on policies the youth can understand, warning that their current approach “will not help the nation.”
“If you want to do politics, do policies that benefit the youth. GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi is doing very well to help the nation,” Paa Willie added.
The group further cautioned the Minority against actions that could force Ghana back to the IMF. “The Minority should not do anything that will make the IMF come in again. It drags the country down, and constant economic hardship is not good,” they stated.
Yaw Kwakye, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the association, said the government’s 24-hour economy markets, funded by GoldBod, will also benefit drivers.
“The 24-hour economy markets the government is building will help drivers because there will be stations at every market where drivers can work. All this development is being generated by GoldBod money. Therefore, we should not do anything to bring it down,” he said.
