“I have not left her” – Man pleads for reconciliation after mother cancels marriage

Ghanaian woman Ellen Okyere has opened up about a bitter dispute surrounding her planned marriage to Frank Duah, claiming that she went into significant debt to support her fiancé before his mother allegedly intervened to stop their union.

Ellen made the claims on Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Auntie Naa, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, as she sought help to resolve the disagreement and save her relationship.

According to Ellen, she met Frank in 2024 after he had been deported from Dubai. She said he moved in with her shortly afterwards and that she became supportive of him after seeing how well he related to her child.

“He was deported from Dubai and came to settle with me in just eight days. I realised he was a good person, especially with how he got attached to my child, so I was helping him as well,” she said.

Ellen claimed that Frank later secured an opportunity to travel to Japan but lacked the funds required, prompting her to take a GH¢40,000 loan to assist him.

“When he got to Japan, there was an issue with fake documents that got him arrested. I paid GH¢11,000 out of the total fine before he got out of prison,” she alleged.

She said Frank later decided that he wanted to marry her, despite her advice that they wait until his financial situation improved. According to Ellen, Frank sent her GH¢3,500 towards preparations for the marriage.

However, she claimed their relationship became strained after Frank’s mother allegedly objected to the marriage and told her she would not allow her son to marry her.

Ellen said she subsequently visited Frank’s mother with friends to apologise and resolve the disagreement, but the woman allegedly maintained her position.

She further claimed that although their marriage had been scheduled for July 19, Frank’s mother later approached her family on July 25 to stop the union.

Frank Duah, who joined the programme by phone, however, insisted that he had not abandoned Ellen and was still working towards their future together.

“I have not left her. The halting of the marriage even got me sick. I almost died. I have gone to her family twice for them to make things work between us again. I have made two applications for her to join me outside, which I haven’t stopped working on,” he said.

Frank also promised to settle any financial obligations he owed Ellen, regardless of whether they eventually married.

“If she wants her money, it’s fine. Whether I marry her or not, I will pay. Even if she won’t marry me, I would want her to come and be with me here. I have good intentions for her,” he added.

In a dramatic moment during the live programme, Frank reportedly transferred GH¢20,000 to Ellen as he sought to demonstrate his commitment. He also asked her to supervise his shop if she was willing.

Frank has continued appealing to the Oyerepa team to help restore his relationship with Ellen, while maintaining that he intends to repay the debts he owes her.

The dispute has now placed the couple’s planned marriage in uncertainty, with financial support, family opposition and unresolved disagreements becoming central to their relationship. Whether the intervention will bring the two back together remains to be seen.
