Gov’t pledges support for Youth Innovation as YEA Employment Hits 90,000

The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, says the John Mahama-led administration is committed to supporting every Ghanaian youth with practical ideas that can be nurtured in the national interest.

Speaking at the National Youth Forum, the minister noted that through its agencies, the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment has created equal opportunities for young people to champion the Ghana “we all desire.”

He cited Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) data showing that the youth make up 60% of Ghana’s population, adding that this places a major responsibility on them to drive national development.

Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Authority (YEA), Mr. Malik Basintale, disclosed that the Authority has recruited over 90,000 young Ghanaians into various institutions nationwide.

He explained that when he assumed office, only a little over 15,000 youth were benefiting from YEA programs. “The current numbers speak volumes about the John Mahama-led administration’s youth-centered policies,” Mr. Basintale said.

On his part, the Director-General of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), Ruth Dela Seddoh, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ohio University in the United States.

According to her, the partnership will provide capacity building and professional development opportunities to equip National Service Personnel with skills for the job market.
