Three-Storey Building Gutted by Fire at Manhyia

A three-storey building at Manhyia South in Kumasi, a short distance from the Manhyia Palace and close to the Manhyia Government Hospital, has been gutted by fire.

The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, causing panic among residents, traders and passers-by as flames and thick smoke billowed from the building.

The fire is reported to have caused extensive damage to the top floor, with more than 10 rooms reportedly affected.

Occupants and victims were seen rushing to salvage their belongings and other valuables from the building as firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining sections and nearby properties.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were dispatched to the scene and engaged in efforts to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, while the full extent of the damage is yet to be determined.

Firefighting and assessment operations were ongoing at the time of reporting.
