C/R: President Mahama Urges Religious Tolerance, Condemns Faith-Based Provocation
President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to promote religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence while condemning acts of religious violence and provocation.
Speaking at the 32nd Biennial General Council Meeting of the Assemblies of God Ghana at the Gomoa Fetteh Pentecost Convention Centre in the Central Region, President Mahama emphasised the importance of respecting Ghana’s religious diversity.
He noted that the 1992 Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and gives individuals the right to practise and express their religious beliefs.
However, the President stressed that such freedoms do not give anyone the right to insult another person’s faith, incite violence or make provocative remarks against other religious groups.
According to him, religious conviction should not be allowed to degenerate into religious provocation, urging Christians in particular to uphold the peaceful teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
President Mahama encouraged religious leaders and their followers to use their influence to promote peace, tolerance and national cohesion rather than deepen divisions.
Meanwhile, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, disclosed that the church had supported victims affected by the recent flooding in parts of the country.
He also revealed that the church had completed and handed over an eight-classroom girls’ modular education complex as part of its contribution to improving access to education in Ghana.
Rev. Wengam said the initiative formed part of the church’s broader commitment to supporting communities and contributing to national development.
