The Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, has denied allegations that he incited supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to attack supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The clash between NDC and NPP supporters occurred on Monday, August 26 after persons said to be affiliated with the NDC, questioned why equipment from the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) was parked at the hotel of the NPP parliamentary candidate and branded with the candidate’s images.
Two individuals sustained injuries during the altercation.
In an interview with Citi News, the Upper Manya Krobo MP urged the District Chief Executive (DCE) to relocate the equipment to the assembly premises to restore peace.
“When they were parading the machines along the street of Asesewa, my house is just close to the road. So when they got to my house, he [the NPP parliamentary candidate] got down to direct traffic. And his boys in the tipper [truck], they were throwing stones at my vehicle. We are on the ground and so how can we throw stones from above? They are in the tipper [truck], and they threw the stones, targeting one of my boys, and by God’s grace, the stone hit their own chairman.
“I will plead with my colleague DCE, that he is the chief executive of this district, and he should know better that he is representing the government or the president and he is not just an NPP member but the district chief executive.
“He allowed all these things to happen because we cautioned him. I personally called him and told him that he cannot put the parliamentary candidate’s picture on this grader because he has no hand in it.”
