Ghana’s largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is demanding a thorough and transparent investigation into the Biometric Verification Devices (BVD) and Biometric Verification Registration (BVR) Devices used by the Electoral Commission.
The NDC believes that without confidence in the accuracy and security of the Electoral Commission’s data and equipment, it is impossible to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
During a press conference, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, expressed concerns about the Electoral Commission’s lack of action, which he believes raises doubts about the integrity of the upcoming general elections.
Kwetey warned that the Electoral Commission’s failure to address these issues promptly could result in election malpractice and undermine the credibility of the elections in the eyes of international observers.
He emphasized that the way the Electoral Commission handles the theft of the BVDs will have a significant impact on the future of Ghana’s democracy.
Kwetey also took the opportunity to express gratitude to whistleblowers who have provided the NDC with crucial information regarding the Electoral Commission.
