The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has revealed that her ministry is working with the Ghana Police Service to arrest the dismissed Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School, Charles Akwasi Aidoo, following allegations of misconduct involving a female student.
Her comments come after the Ghana Education Service (GES), in a statement dated September 29, 2025, dismissed Aidoo from his position after a viral video allegedly showed him in a compromising situation with the student. GES described the matter as one of “utmost seriousness,” adding that he has been barred from returning to the school while investigations continue.
Speaking to the media on October 1, 2025, Dr. Lartey stressed that the case had moved beyond internal disciplinary action and was now a criminal matter under police investigation.
“We have received many reports on gender-based violence and child abuse. Because of the role of the ministry, we collaborate with the police whenever such cases arise. The recent report of the 13-year-old and the assistant headmaster is a case in point,” she explained.
She further emphasized that while GES had already taken administrative action, the ministry is actively working with the police to ensure the suspect is arrested and faces justice.
According to Dr. Lartey, growing public awareness of abuse has led to increased reporting of such cases, enabling state institutions to act more swiftly in protecting vulnerable groups.
