Two suspects in Gold Smuggling scandal arrested and arraigned before high court

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Abdul Karim Alhassan and Sadique Abubakar, who were earlier declared wanted for their alleged roles in a gold smuggling network.

In a statement, GoldBod said the two suspects voluntarily surrendered to authorities and have since been arraigned before the High Court to face multiple charges, including gold smuggling, conspiracy to smuggle gold, and transportation of gold without a license.

The court has granted them bail, but they remain in lawful custody until they meet the bail conditions set by the court and proceedings resume.

Meanwhile, two other suspects — Mohammed Afsal Puthalan and Mohammed Refeeq Nandoli (alias Salam) — remain at large. GoldBod has urged the public to assist the Ghana Police Service with any credible information that could lead to their arrest.

The Board reiterated that the ₵1 million bounty per person remains active for information resulting in the capture of the two fugitives.
