“Talk to my face; I deserve respect” — McBrown warns critics
Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has publicly expressed her disappointment over remarks made about her by panelists on a podcast hosted by Sammy Flex, the manager of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
The discussion centered on McBrown’s earlier comments suggesting that she should be paid for appearances on the red carpet at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs). During the podcast, some panelists criticized her stance, arguing that she was setting unrealistic standards and appearing overly proud.
Responding to the criticism on her Onua Showtime programme, McBrown described the comments as disrespectful and insisted that she deserves recognition and respect for her significant contributions to Ghana’s entertainment industry.
She said, “I met Sammy Flex in the UK and told him, ‘Sammy, you are not an industry person, so you should not sit on your podcast and misinterpret what I said. McBrown—put some respect on this name, okay? I have played many roles in helping the industry get to where it is today, making it possible for people like you to even have a platform to discuss these issues. When you’re talking about me, know where you’re coming from. If you’re in my lane, you can speak about me, but if you’re far away, then respect me.’”
McBrown further explained that she prefers addressing issues directly rather than speaking about people behind their backs.
“I said it to his face. You know I don’t speak behind people’s backs. I say it to their face,” she added.
The actress and television host maintained that her confrontation with Sammy Flex was respectful but necessary, as she wanted clarity on why she had become a subject of discussion on his platform.
