“Find someone to confide in” – McBrown advises men
Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has encouraged men to open up about their struggles and seek support from trusted individuals instead of dealing with challenges alone.
The actress shared the advice while throwing her support behind journalist and content creator Kobby Kyei’s “BoysLivesMatter” initiative, which seeks to create conversations around men’s emotional well-being and the need for support systems.
According to Nana Ama McBrown, popularly known as Empress McBrown, many people, including women, often struggle to find trustworthy people to discuss their challenges with, making it even more difficult for men who are usually less expressive about their problems.
“Some of us, even as women, when we encounter difficulties, we find it difficult to find someone trustworthy to talk to, not to talk of men who naturally don’t talk much. I just feel like you should find one person and discuss your problems in terms of things you find difficult in resolving,” she said.
She advised men to identify reliable people they can speak with, mentioning family members, friends, religious leaders, or even colleagues as possible sources of support.
“It can be your pastor, your father, your mother, your friend, or even your boss. Find one person you can confide in when it comes to your problems because a problem shared is half solved,” McBrown added.
The actress further cautioned that keeping problems bottled up can create emotional pressure and may lead people to make decisions they could later regret.
“If you are not able to speak up and get overwhelmed with the situation, it brings a lot of voices to you. And those voices, if God does not intercede, you will say what you are not supposed to say or do what you are not supposed to do. So I just feel like BoysLivesMatter,” she stated.
Her comments come amid growing discussions about men’s mental health and the importance of creating safe spaces where men can openly discuss personal challenges without fear of judgment.
Kobby Kyei’s BoysLivesMatter movement has gained attention for highlighting issues affecting men and encouraging conversations around emotional support, responsibility, and well-being. McBrown’s message adds her voice to calls for men to seek help and avoid suffering silently.
