Ghanaian highlife artiste Kofi Nti Fosu, popularly known as K.K. Fosu, has announced plans to contest the Akuapem North parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the 2028 general election.

The musician, who abandoned his earlier political ambition ahead of the 2024 polls after surviving a serious road accident, says he is now prepared to enter the political arena and challenge the existing structures in the constituency.

Speaking in an interview, K.K. Fosu expressed confidence in his ability to win the seat, insisting that the popularity of incumbent Member of Parliament Samuel Awuku, popularly known as Sammy Awuku, and the strength of any political party would not prevent him from succeeding.

“If Sammy Awuku likes, he should leave the NPP and come to meet me face-to-face. I am going as an independent candidate,” he stated.

The highlife musician said he is ready to compete against Sammy Awuku regardless of whether the MP contests under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) banner or as an independent candidate.

K.K. Fosu argued that voters are more concerned about the individual representing them than party colours, adding that his confidence comes from his belief that the NPP has lost its appeal among many constituents.

“The party is dead,” he said, while explaining why he believes he can secure victory in the constituency.

K.K. Fosu’s latest declaration marks his return to political discussions after his previous attempt was interrupted by health challenges. He now appears set to combine his celebrity influence with grassroots campaigning as he prepares for the 2028 parliamentary contest.
