The Member of Parliament for Akrofum, Joseph Azumah, has criticised authorities of Senior High Schools (SHSs) over the management of funds allocated for food supplies.
His comments follow concerns raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), which warned that some schools could be forced to close if urgent funding is not released to procure essential food items.
The government had earlier pledged to provide funds directly to heads of SHSs to enable them to purchase foodstuffs for their schools.
However, speaking in an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, the MP said the government had already released funds but alleged that some heads were not using the money appropriately.
“The government gave headmasters funds to purchase food. However, we received information that most of the heads were misusing the funds given to them. As of today, the National Intelligence Bureau is investigating some of the headmasters. Others were not purchasing quality foodstuffs,” he stated.
Mr. Azumah assured that government remains committed to supporting the schools and dismissed fears of any shutdown.
“I have received information that the government will disburse funds to the schools. No school will be closed—that will never happen,” he added.
