Ghanaian Reggae-dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is facing criticism over his yet-to-be-launched book.
Shatta Wale is currently preparing to launch a new self-authored book that details his life story. The book highlights his music journey, industry setbacks, and business strategies that have contributed to his success in both his career and personal life.
The criticism began when Ghanaians interested in social and entertainment issues started questioning the target audience of the book. Critics argue that Shatta Wale has often spoken against the importance of formal education, frequently suggesting that schooling is not necessary. According to some social media users, he often ends his speeches with indirect insults aimed at people who consider education a major achievement.
Shatta Wale’s Media and Public Relations Manager, Sammy Flex, shared a video of the book on X with the caption:
“Big name, bigger achievements. Many books will be written in his name for generations to come. His name is Shatta Wale. Can’t wait to get access to these books so we can start some serious publishing collaborations. Big thanks to Lawton Bentil. Our response drops soon… Stay tuned!”
The book is titled Voice of the Streets: King of African Dancehall.
Some critics believe that if Shatta Wale considers school a “scam,” then it is contradictory for him to expect people to read his book. Others have questioned whether the artiste is being hypocritical by discouraging education while releasing a book that requires literacy and learning.
However, some people also believe he deserves praise for taking the initiative to share his experiences and lessons, which could serve as inspiration and guidance for readers.
