Prof. Maxwell Darko Asante, Director of the Crops Research Institute (CRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has underscored the need for Ghana to adopt scientific farming practices to attract the youth and improve agricultural productivity.
He made this known during a two-day training programme organised by CSIR-CRI in collaboration with CORAF and the Food Systems Resilience Programme (FSRP), aimed at training youth and seed growers in good agronomic practices.
The workshop exposed participants to modern production techniques in crops such as maize, rice, yams, cassava, soya beans and cowpea.
Prof. Asante noted that while technology plays a key role in agricultural transformation, investment remains critical to achieving sustainable results.
“Productivity doesn’t come with technology alone; it goes with investment. Government and the private sector must invest in agriculture if we want to feed ourselves, supply our industries and develop as a nation,” he stated.
