Police restore calm in Sampa after deadly Chieftaincy clashes
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that calm has been restored in Sampa, Bono Region, after violent clashes linked to a chieftaincy dispute left one person dead and several others injured on Wednesday, September 10.
In a statement, the Police said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare quickly dispatched reinforcement teams to the area to contain the unrest and protect lives and property.
Security presence has since been strengthened, with intensified patrols across Sampa and nearby communities to forestall further disturbances.
The violence, which stems from a long-running chieftaincy conflict, had sparked widespread fear and panic among residents until security forces intervened.
Police indicated that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances behind the clashes. The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be disclosed.
Reassuring the public, the Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security, particularly in communities vulnerable to chieftaincy disputes that have historically triggered unrest in various parts of the country.
