Okpleme Nuer Annorbaa Sasraku II, Paramount Chief of Yilo Krobo and President of Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, has emphasized the need for urgent attention to regional and district boundary issues in Ghana.
Speaking at the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LISAG) Annual General Meeting and Seminar, he highlighted the numerous challenges posed by these boundary disputes.
Chief Sasraku II urged LISAG and relevant government ministries, departments, and agencies to implement the recommendations outlined in the 2021 technical report on district boundary issues. This report builds upon the 2012 District Peace Report.
The Paramount Chief also encouraged members of LISAG to adopt innovative approaches, foster collaboration, and promote sustainability. By doing so, they can help create vibrant, economically robust, and livable communities.
Furthermore, Chief Sasraku II , expressed his confidence in the Ministry of Local Government and Religious Affairs’ commitment to supporting this initiative.
He believes that, together, they can transform communities one area at a time, paving the way for a brighter future for all.
On his part, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, emphasized the need for mapping and eliminating disaster-prone areas.
This includes flood zones and high-risk areas, leveraging elevation profiles and proactive disaster-integrated strategies.
Dr. Yeboah’s speech on behalf of the minister highlighted the crucial role licensed surveyors play in shaping Ghana’s future.
He stressed the importance of licensed surveyors’ roles in land use planning, urban development, and environmental assessment. He encouraged LISAG to explore economic opportunities and benefits through mapping and innovative technologies.
