The Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has slammed politicians who claim they were cheated in elections, describing such allegations as “foolish.”
Speaking on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show, Asenso-Boakye stressed the importance of unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following internal elections.
“What we are doing is selecting our candidate for the general election. Once the process is over, we must unite, just as we did in 1992 and during Akufo-Addo’s time. We do not rig elections for anyone,” he said.
He added: “Unless you are foolish enough to allow yourself to be cheated in an election, you have no one to blame. I listened to Prof. Boateng, a man I respect greatly, say the previous election was rigged for Bawumia. Nobody forced me to support Bawumia.”
The remarks come ahead of the NPP’s highly anticipated flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2026. The election will determine the party’s candidate for the next presidential election, with several aspirants campaigning across the country to win delegate support.
Party members and delegates are expected to vote for the candidate who will lead the NPP into the 2026 general election, and observers note that unity after the primaries will be crucial for maintaining party strength.
The NPP primaries are shaping up to be a decisive event, with aspirants emphasizing policies, party cohesion, and grassroots support as key pillars of their campaigns.
