NPP denies plans to reshuffle Afenyo-Markin’s Minority leadership team

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed reports of an impending reshuffle of its parliamentary leadership, insisting that it has no plans to replace Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his team.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the NPP remained satisfied with the performance of the current Minority leadership and had not held any discussions about changing the composition of the team.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, Mr Kodua Frimpong accused individuals behind the reports of deliberately attempting to create division and confusion within the party’s parliamentary caucus.

“Let me state it categorically. The party has never had any meeting. The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament. We have not,” he stated.

He maintained that attempts to fuel speculation about changes to the Minority leadership would not succeed, reaffirming the party’s confidence in Mr Afenyo-Markin and his team.

NPP cautions members against running mate campaigns

Meanwhile, Mr Kodua Frimpong has cautioned NPP members against using social media campaigns and bloggers to promote themselves for consideration as the running mate to the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

He explained that the party’s constitution does not provide for a competitive contest or public campaign in selecting a running mate.

According to him, the decision rests with the party’s flagbearer in consultation with the National Council, warning aspiring candidates against engaging bloggers to advance their ambitions.

“There is nowhere in our constitution which says that the running mate is selected through a contest or through a campaign; so the people who are busily urging bloggers to promote themselves, you are wrong,” he said.

He urged party members to respect the constitutional processes governing the selection of the running mate rather than engaging in premature campaigns that could create unnecessary tension within the party.
