NDC Race: Dr. Opong-Fosu to Kick Off Campaign Tour in Volta Region
Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, an aspirant for the National Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will commence his nationwide campaign tour in the Volta Region on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The tour is aimed at fostering party unity and strengthening grassroots structures as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
According to a press release issued by his campaign team on October 29, starting the tour in the Volta Region is in recognition of the region’s historic role and immense contribution to the growth and electoral fortunes of the NDC.
During the tour, Dr. Opong-Fosu is expected to interact with regional and constituency executives, delegates, branch executives, party elders, cadres, former and current Members of Parliament, government appointees, and other key stakeholders.
The team explained that the engagements will create a platform to listen to the concerns of party members while sharing his vision of consolidating the NDC’s gains and protecting the legacy and achievements of President John Dramani Mahama.
His campaign, they said, will be anchored on three core principles: “Votes, Voice and Viability” – ensuring that grassroots members are recognized, heard, and economically empowered. “The visit is intended to engage party stakeholders, listen to their concerns and share Dr. Opong-Fosu’s vision of CONSOLIDATING THE GAINS,” the statement noted.
Dr. Opong-Fosu, a founding member of the NDC, is being touted as a candidate with vast experience in party organization and public service, having served as a Member of Parliament, Minister of State, and public administrator.
His campaign team believes his deep institutional knowledge and experience make him well-positioned to promote unity, inclusiveness, and a stronger party front.
They expressed confidence that his leadership will help the NDC consolidate its gains and retain power in 2028 and beyond. The Volta Regional tour will mark the official start of his nationwide campaign for the national chairmanship.
“His proven experience, institutional knowledge and commitment to party unity make him the obvious choice to lead the NDC in consolidating its gains, safeguarding its political future and securing victory in 2028 and beyond,” the statement added.
