Dr Clement Apaak commends Jack Alolome for standing up to racism aboard flight

Ghanaian gospel musician Jack Alolome has received commendation from Deputy Education Minister and Builsa South MP, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, for standing his ground during an alleged racial discrimination incident aboard an international flight.

Dr Apaak praised the musician after a video he recorded on the aircraft circulated, recounting an incident in which he said individuals attempted to prevent him from boarding because of his skin colour.

In a statement reacting to the video, the lawmaker described the incident as a sobering experience and commended Mr Alolome for refusing to give in to the alleged racial pressure.

“What a sobering and incredible experience by our compatriot, the renowned Ghanaian gospel musician, Jack Alolome. I commend him highly for standing up against the racists who sought to get him off the airplane simply because he is a black man,” Dr Apaak stated.

He added that the musician stood firm and refused to yield to pressure or persuasion aimed at stopping him from boarding the flight.

According to Dr Apaak, Mr Alolome said he invoked the name of President John Dramani Mahama and threatened legal action against the airline during the incident.

The MP suggested that these actions helped the musician avoid being removed from the flight.

“I appreciate him for smartly invoking the name and global reputation of H.E. JDM. As he narrated in the video clip he recorded on the plane—on which he was the only passenger—but for invoking the name of H.E. JDM and following up with a threat to sue the airline, he would have been dropped from the flight,” he said.

Dr Apaak said the incident offered important lessons about confronting prejudice and standing up against unfair treatment.

He encouraged Ghanaians not to surrender to racism or bullying, while also highlighting what he described as the importance of national leadership in shaping a country’s standing and reputation internationally.

“We can all draw inspiration from his brave stand. First, never yield to racists and bullies. Second, it helps to be a citizen of a country whose President stands tall in the community of nations,” he added.
