NPP concludes voter album validation ahead of January 2026 Presidential Primaries
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee has announced the successful completion of its nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Addressing journalists at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Committee Chairman Joseph Osei-Owusu said the exercise covered all 275 constituencies and external branches, marking a key milestone in preparations for the upcoming contest.
According to Mr. Osei-Owusu, all presidential aspirants will receive the provisional voter register on Thursday, November 13, 2025, to allow for a two-week verification and feedback period before the final list is certified.
“The nationwide voter album verification and validation exercise, encompassing all constituencies and external branches, has been successfully concluded. In the spirit of transparency and fairness, all aspirants will receive the provisional voter register on November 13 for verification and observations before finalisation,” he stated.
He explained that while the process uncovered minor administrative errors such as spelling mistakes, omissions, and incorrect entries, these did not compromise the credibility or integrity of the voter register.
“All such issues are being promptly corrected,” he assured.
Mr. Osei-Owusu added that the exercise also confirmed the removal of deceased members and individuals who had forfeited party membership, in line with Article 3(9)(1) of the NPP Constitution.
The five aspirants contesting the flagbearer position are:
- Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President
- Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central
- Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Food and Agriculture
- Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister of Education
- Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Press Secretary to President John Agyekum Kufuor
The Committee also announced a series of security and operational measures to guarantee a credible and peaceful election. The Ghana Police Service will have exclusive control of election-day security, while the Electoral Commission (EC) will supervise the printing, distribution, and monitoring of ballot papers and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines.
In the coming weeks, the Committee will hold joint meetings with the aspirants, the EC, the Police Service, and the National Council of Elders to sign a peace pact before the polls.
Reaffirming the Committee’s commitment, Mr. Osei-Owusu said:
“We remain unflinchingly dedicated to ensuring a free, fair, transparent, and credible electoral process conducted without fear, favour, or bias.”
He further cautioned party members and the media to avoid misinformation that could undermine confidence in the process, assuring that the Committee would maintain open communication with all stakeholders until the primaries conclude.
“Together, we will uphold the NPP’s tradition of democratic excellence and institutional discipline,” he declared.
