NPP activist KOKA granted GH¢50,000 bail over viral video investigation

New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist Kweku Osei Korankyi Asiedu, widely known as KOKA, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 following his interrogation by police over allegations of offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

His legal counsel confirmed on Monday, May 25, 2026, that KOKA remains under investigation and is required to report to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command on Friday, May 29, 2026, as part of his bail conditions.

The case stems from a viral video in which the activist was alleged to have issued threats during a confrontation, with claims that the remarks were directed at a police officer.

However, KOKA’s defence lawyer, Enoch Afoakwa, has rejected the allegations, insisting that the comments were misunderstood and not directed at the Ghana Police Service.

According to him, the statements in question were aimed at an internal NPP security member who is commonly referred to by the nickname “Police” or “Boryor”.

Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, the lawyer said the context of the exchange had been misinterpreted due to the use of the nickname.

He further described the incident captured in the video as a light-hearted interaction among political associates rather than any form of threat against law enforcement.

Mr Afoakwa also noted that KOKA voluntarily honoured the police invitation and fully cooperated with investigators during questioning, adding that his client respects the Ghana Police Service and would not threaten any officer.
