The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Ahafo Region has launched an investigation into an alleged sexual misconduct involving a security officer and a female student of Mim Senior High School.

The incident has raised concern in the Mim community following allegations that the security officer approached the student with a request to engage in sexual activity.

The matter reportedly led to an angry response from some community youth, who allegedly assaulted the security officer after learning of the incident.

The GES has since begun an inquiry to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred.

As part of the investigation, the Asunafo North Municipal Directorate of the GES has interviewed both the security officer and the student.

Municipal Director Samuel Jatong Larri said the student was interviewed in the presence of her parents to ensure that her account was obtained in a supportive environment.

He explained that the security officer had also been given an opportunity to present his version of events, with the Directorate now compiling the separate accounts for further consideration.

“We interviewed the security man. We also interviewed the girl in question in the presence of her mother and the father. So the security man narrated his side of it. The girl also did the same thing,” he said.

Mr Larri said the findings would be submitted to the Regional Director of Education to guide the next steps.

He stressed that the welfare of the student remains a key priority throughout the investigation, particularly given the potential psychological impact of such an incident.

“So we are putting the reports together…we will forward it to the regional director. When it happens like this, the girl is our main focus. We are focused on how to protect the girl in terms of psychological trauma that she would be going through,” he said.

The GES has not yet announced any conclusions on the allegations, as the investigation remains ongoing.
