Kenneth Adjei hands over Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry to Ahmed Ibrahim

Ahmed Ibrahim has formally assumed responsibility for the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources following a ministerial reshuffle by President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Ibrahim takes over from Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence as part of the President’s changes to his Cabinet.

The transition was formalised at a handing-over ceremony held at the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry in Accra, where the two ministers signed the necessary documents to officially transfer the administration of the Ministry.

Mr Adjei, who headed the Ministry from February 2025 to August 2026, used the occasion to encourage his successor to build on the progress made during his tenure while introducing new strategies to address challenges confronting the sector.

He highlighted key areas that received attention under his leadership, including efforts to reduce Ghana’s housing deficit, improve access to water, address flooding and revive stalled development projects.

Among the projects was the Saglemi Housing Project, which had remained incomplete for several years.

Adjei bids farewell to staff

Mr Adjei also expressed appreciation to management and staff for their support and commitment throughout his tenure.

In an emotional farewell, he credited the achievements recorded during his time in office to the collective efforts of the Ministry’s staff.

“I can’t thank you enough,” he told staff, acknowledging their professionalism and dedication.

He urged the team to extend the same support to the new Minister as he takes charge of the Ministry.

Adjei moves to Defence Ministry

Mr Adjei’s reassignment takes him to the Ministry of Defence, where he succeeds the late Dr Edward Omane Boamah.

He brings previous experience in the sector, having served as Deputy Defence Minister between 2015 and 2017.

Mr Ibrahim, meanwhile, joins the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

His appointment forms part of President Mahama’s Cabinet reshuffle announced on August 7, 2026, aimed at repositioning key ministries to advance the government’s agenda.
