The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has urged the leadership of the Ghana Football Association led by Mr. Kurt Simeon Okraku, to properly structure the Ghanaian top-flight league to make it ‘much more competitive’ on the continent.
Speaking Exclusively on Oyerepa TV’s OBT Agenda on Tuesday 10th May, 2022, the ace politician mentioned that the FA must double its efforts to improve the standard of the Ghanaian domestic league.
“The FA has to sit down and structure the league system to make it much more competitive than it is today,” the Suame MP said.

Commenting further about the low competitive nature of the Ghana domestic league, Kyei Mensah Bonsu added that: “People lose interest in the game when the league is suspended for like two weeks. There should be a proper structure in place to ensure that we get a continuous and permanent calendar as to when the league starts and when it should end.
“You don’t change the system in midstream while the league is ongoing, when that happens it disrupts the competitive nature of the league. The constant changing of the rules of the league is also another problem.” The minister for Parliamentary affairs concluded.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko currently leads the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League standings with 56 points, followed by Bechem United who have 47 points after matchday 28.
Medeama SC are placed third with 46 points, two points better than defending Champions Accra Hearts of Oak who sit fifth on the log.
