Mahama supports Buz Stop Boys as he relaunches National Sanitation Day

President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Buz Stop Boys for their dedication to keeping Ghana’s towns and cities clean, describing their voluntary work as a model of community service.

Speaking at the re-launch of National Sanitation Day in Madina on Saturday, September 6, 2025, the President applauded the group’s selfless efforts and pledged continued government support.

As part of the recognition, he presented logistics to the group on behalf of government, including 200 wheelbarrows, 300 shovels, 300 brooms, 300 gloves, 280 standing brushes, 20 short brushes, and 300 buckets to strengthen their clean-up campaigns.

Mahama recalled first learning about the group in 2024 through social media when they appealed for assistance. At the time, he donated a tricycle to help transport their tools and waste.

“We want to honour these selfless, community-spirited young people who, for years, have used their own resources, energy, and strength to keep our cities clean,” the President said.

Founder of the group, Heneba Kwadwo Sarfo, thanked the President for the recognition, affirming their commitment to promoting environmental cleanliness and community service.

Government also announced that starting October 2025, the first Saturday of every month will once again be observed as National Sanitation Day, with all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) actively participating.

The initiative, first introduced in 2014 during Mahama’s earlier administration, is part of a broader effort to improve sanitation nationwide and encourage civic responsibility.
