Gomoa Fetteh seeks President Mahama’s help as alleged Landguards chase chiefs, harass residents

The chiefs and residents of Gomoa Fetteh and its surrounding areas say they are living in fear as alleged land guards continue to attack, chase, and kill people in a bid to take over their lands and properties.

According to them, their only hope now lies with President John Dramani Mahama, since former President Nana Akufo-Addo, whom they had earlier petitioned for intervention, failed to resolve the issue.

Speaking at a press conference, Nana Abore Ewusi XX, Chief of Gomoa Fetteh, alleged that some individuals are parading themselves as chiefs and dressing in chieftaincy regalia, even though they are not legitimate traditional rulers. He therefore appealed to the NDC government, under the leadership of President Mahama, to intervene.

He lamented that land guards have virtually taken over the entire area, depriving genuine landowners of the peace needed to develop their properties.

Obaahemaa Nana Amosima Nkrabea I, Queen Mother of Gomoa Fetteh, also stated that land guards have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, leaving rightful landowners unable to develop their lands.

Now in her 90s, Nana Amosima explained that she has appointed Obaahemaa Baaba Akorfu Nkrabea as her successor to assume the role of Queen Mother. However, due to alleged intimidation and harassment by one Kwasi Alhaji, the enstoolment ceremony has been prevented from taking place.

She further revealed that although she reported the matter to the previous NPP government, it was not addressed. According to her, some residents have even been killed and their bodies dumped in the bush, deepening the panic within the community. She therefore appealed for urgent government intervention, stressing that the community cannot handle the situation on its own.

Nana Kwame Ewudzi, Abusuapayin of the Abor Twidan family of Gomoa Fetteh, emphasised that there is only one legitimate stool in the area, which can only be occupied by recognised family members. He expressed concern that certain individuals who do not belong to the royal family are intimidating residents while falsely claiming royal status.

He also appealed directly to President John Mahama to step in and restore peace to Gomoa Fetteh, so that the rightful owners can reclaim and develop their lands.
