The youth and traditional leaders (Nananom) of Gomoa Akotsi in the Gomoa East District have launched a protest against the Omanhene of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, over what they describe as an attempt to illegitimately remove their chief, Nana Safo Ninson XVIII.
According to the protesters, the Omanhene has allegedly conspired with certain family members to install a new chief, despite the fact that Nana Safo Ninson XVIII—who also serves as the Nkabomuhene of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council—is still actively performing his duties.
During the protest, the youth voiced their strong disapproval of what they called a deliberate plan to dethrone a hardworking and development-focused leader. They warned those involved to abandon their actions or face further resistance.
They emphasized that Nana Safo Ninson XVIII has been instrumental in pushing forward development initiatives in Gomoa Akotsi and expressed frustration that the Omanhene and his alleged collaborators are working to destabilize the community.
Responding to the situation, Nana Safo Ninson XVIII confirmed that he had received reports of a plan to swear in a new chief for Akotsi. He immediately contacted the District Police Commander, and together they intervened at the Omanhene’s palace to halt the alleged installation process.
The chief expressed deep concern over the Omanhene’s actions, describing them as a threat to the peace and development of the community. He is therefore appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the National House of Chiefs to intervene and bring the Omanhene to order.
